STRATEGIC CONTEXT

Our client is an award-winning digital marketing agency built around one belief: brilliant people doing meaningful, data-driven work create giant results. Founded in 2008 and now a 50-strong team based in Folkestone and London, SGM specialises in SEO, PPC, content marketing, social media, digital PR, data and tracking, website migration, and strategic digital leadership training.

The company partners with an impressive mix of B2B and B2C brands – including Holiday Extras, LeShuttle Freight, Olympia Events, Titan Travel, Samsung and several large global clients – helping them elevate performance, build long-term capability, and stay ahead of the relentless change in digital.

The business has spent the past two years laying strong foundations for scale, with major strides in structure, client retention, and operational maturity. Now, we are entering the next phase: moving from SME to large-agency territory, winning bigger, more complex assignments, and embedding AI across our commercial and delivery operations.

As a B Corp, they’re committed to positive impact, genuine transparency, and a values-driven culture where people feel supported, challenged, and empowered to grow. Expect a down-to-earth, no-ego environment where curiosity, continuous learning and kindness matter as much as capability.

This is a team with momentum, a clear vision, and the appetite to do things differently – and the Head of Growth sits right at the heart of that future.

THE ROLE: Head of Growth

The Head of Growth is a senior commercial role responsible for driving all new-business revenue and leading the company’s next phase of scale. You’ll take ownership of new business, build repeatable growth engines, and position SGM to win larger, more complex clients as the agency moves firmly into the large-agency space.

Reporting directly to the CEO and CRO (remote), you’ll lead a high-performing team of three Growth Managers and a Marketing Manager, coaching, developing and enabling them to deliver consistently strong results. The team is capable and motivated; your job is to elevate performance, introduce structure, and ensure the commercial function no longer depends so heavily on one individual.

The role is London-focused, with most clients based there. You’ll typically spend 1 or days per week in the Kent HQ (and make use of the new London space once opened), operating in a flexible hybrid model.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver the new-business revenue target of c.£1.5M across a mix of B2B and B2C clients.
  • Lead, coach and develop the Growth team — embedding process, improving consistency, and supporting them on pitches and strategic opportunities.
  • With support from the CEO and CRO, build a modern, AI-enabled sales approach: using AI intelligently across prospecting, qualification, pitch development and client engagement.
  • Drive the agency’s move up-market, shaping how SGM positions itself to larger brands and more complex digital programmes.
  • Oversee the full new-business cycle — pipeline creation, outbound, qualification, proposals, pitches, and closing.
  • Work with marketing to align demand generation, brand positioning and outbound activity, ensuring a joined-up growth engine.
  • Support the wider leadership team in forecasting, commercial planning and growth strategy.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with key prospects and partners, representing SGM with credibility, confidence and a challenger mindset.
  • Bring insight into the evolving digital marketing landscape — especially AI — and articulate this persuasively to senior clients.
  • Champion SGM’s values, B Corp commitments, and people-first culture, setting high standards for openness, learning and positive impact.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

We’re looking for an experienced commercial leader from the digital agency world — someone who blends strong sales craft, credible marketing understanding, and the ability to coach a capable team to consistently high performance. You’ll be comfortable selling strategic, multi-channel digital programmes, speaking the language of senior marketers, and using AI to enhance how you and your team operate.

Experience & Background

  • 10+ years in digital marketing agencies (SEO, PPC, performance, creative, content or integrated).
  • Proven track record delivering new-business revenue and running or developing a small commercial team.
  • Strong experience working with mid-size and large brands, able to engage credibly with CMOs, Marketing Directors and senior decision-makers.
  • Comfortable selling strategy-led agency services and explaining the impact of performance marketing, data and digital transformation.
  • AI-literate — curious, confident and interested in learning how AI enhances the sales cycle and the future of digital marketing.

Attributes & Behaviours

  • Challenger mindset — confident but never arrogant; pushes thinking in the right moments.
  • No ego, no BS — straight-talking, practical and grounded.
  • Highly self-aware, open to feedback, and committed to continuous learning.
  • Supportive coach who builds confidence, capability and accountability within their team.
  • Brings energy, positivity and a solutions-focused approach.
  • Transparent, kind and collaborative — fits naturally into the close-knit SGM culture.
  • Excited by AI, industry change and the future of digital marketing.

The opportunity for you

This is a rare chance to take a well-loved, well-run agency and help push it into a bigger league. If you’re energised by growth, leadership and shaping how a modern digital agency sells, this role gives you the platform and freedom to make a real mark.

A chance to scale something properly

You’ll step into an agency that has spent the past two years getting itself truly ready for growth — stronger structure, big global client wins, far better retention, and clarity of direction. You’re not fixing chaos; you’re accelerating momentum.

Lead a talented, motivated team

The Growth Managers are capable, hungry and positive. You’ll elevate a team that already has a strong foundation — giving you the satisfaction of building something high-performing, not rescuing something broken.

Real influence on the agency’s future

You’ll shape how the company moves from SME to large-agency space, how the proposition evolves, and how the agency positions itself with larger, enterprise-level clients. Your fingerprints will be on the next chapter.

Be at the forefront of AI-enabled selling

The company is actively embracing AI as a competitive advantage across the commercial function. You’ll help define what modern, AI-informed growth looks like — from prospecting and pitching to storytelling and client education.

Values that actually mean something

As a B Corp, our client genuinely cares about its people, the environment and the impact it creates. Expect transparency, balance, kindness and a culture where growth doesn’t come at the expense of well-being.

Support, trust and autonomy

You’ll work closely with CEO and CRO in a collaborative, low-ego environment. You get guidance where you need it, space where you don’t, and the trust to build your own direction.

A platform with strong momentum

With major global clients recently onboarded and a strengthened commercial structure, the timing is exceptional. You’ll be joining at the exact moment where the leap to “large agency” becomes possible — and you’ll be central to making it happen.
